How to help someone with an addiction
Addiction affects many people. The affect on the lives of those close to the addicted person can be great, and people living in the same family as someone with an addiction or in a relationship with someone with an addiction can find life very hard and not know who to talk to.
Most addiction counsellors are more than happy to speak with friends and family and give them advice on coping and helping to get their loved one the treatment they need. This can be difficult as the addiction will often have turned the addict into a person who is in denial of their addiction or the impact it is happening on others.
There are helpful strategies ranging from help in speaking with the addicted person through to an intervention when a trained addiction counsellor creates a meeting to persuade the person to seek help in a rehab centre. One of the main reasons for phoning someone for help is to find out just what help is available for both the addicted person and their families and friends.
By contacting rehab search you can speak to a qualified addictions advisor who can give impartial recommendations on the best options for treatment and long term recovery. They will take into consideration your particular circumstances including the type of addiction, your family situation and your preferences for treatment and suggest ways you can help your loved one get the treatment and help they need.
